Trends in Government and International Politics
A Response to Globalization:
The last few years have seen somewhat of a rebuke to the trend towards globalization that took off in the 90's. Tapping into popular resentment about everything from new waves of immigration to economic inequality, populist leaders have risen to new prominence across the world's democracies. This has led to changes in political discourse that some commentators have referred to as "toxic," but also "touch issues that need airing," and "express resentments that need a voice" (Lloyd). What will become of this movement in years to come is unknown, but it has already shaken and brought about major changes across the world.
Outlook of American Politics:
The American Government is divided more than ever. The views of the two major parties in the political is skewed in that the Republicans interests have grown more conservative while the Democrats interests have grown more liberal over the past ten years. The problem with a government this deeply divided within the two major parties is that legislature becomes stagnant and few laws are passed. If this continues on its current path then it seems that the parties will only become more separated. Though the American government works well because it makes conservatives and liberals interact with each other and create a government that works great for the entire country.
